OpenAI DevDay 2025 !! (pt 2)

Okay, if you saw my last post, I promise, I’m almost finished yapping about DevDay. There’s just one more thing I wanted to talk about, and that’s Apps SDK.

It’s not as flashy as AgentKit (which I talked about in my last post), but I think it’s far more applicable to the vast majority of people. With Apps SDK, you can connect ChatGPT’s functionality with many of the apps and interfaces we know and love. It’s a marriage of software, and it introduces ChatGPT users to a whole new realm of use.

Instead of the paragraph-by-paragraph explanation I usually employ, I’m going to list some of the prompts demo’ed at DevDay, so you can see here for yourself exactly what sort of power Apps SDK allows users to tap into:

  • Figma, turn this sketch into a usable diagram.”
  • Coursera, can you teach me something about machine learning?” ….. “Can you explain to me what’s going on in the video at this point?”
  • Canva, can you make me a poster? I want it to be colorful, whimsical, bright, and I prefer sans serif fonts.”
  • Zillow, please show me some homes for sale in Pittsburgh.”

As you can see, all you need to do is namedrop the app you want to connect to, and ChatGPT will handle the rest. Here are the apps ChatGPT currently supports connection with: Booking.com, Canva, Coursera, Expedia, Figma, Spotify, Zillow, AllTrails, DoorDash, Khan Academy, InstaCart, Peloton, OpenTable, Target, TheFork, Tripadvisor, Thumbtack, and Uber.

Hopefully, that gets your imagination going as to all that you can do with Apps SDK, be it learning about a new concept, making fancy designs, looking at houses, playing music, ordering food or groceries, getting in exercise, booking reservations or trips, calling drivers, and so much more!

Even cooler is the fact that ChatGPT can understand at what point in your conversation a third-party app would be helpful to add in, and it’ll actually suggest that you connect with a certain app to improve response quality. For example, asking “Make me a playlist for my party based on my favorite songs,” could result in ChatGPT recommending that you connect to Spotify! Obviously, you get to decide whether or not you consent to the connection being made, but it’s pretty amazing how perceptive AI is becoming. It certainly shows all that Apps SDK is capable of (quite a lot!).

All in all, through Apps SDK, your AI assistant can become more assistive than ever.
